GoBrainly is headquartered in Singapore, but all lessons are online, which means there are no geographic restrictions on who can teach or learn. We're actively expanding across ASEAN and Asia-Pacific.

How do I book a lesson? Lessons & Scheduling Students & Parents

Browse educator profiles, check their rates, availability, qualifications, and intro video. When you find the right fit, pick a time slot and confirm your booking. Lessons are booked in one-hour slots and confirmed once payment is complete.

If you need to reschedule, our cancellation and rescheduling policy covers everything you need to know.

How long is each lesson? Lessons & Scheduling Everyone

Each lesson is exactly one hour. The session ends automatically at the 60-minute mark.

You'll receive reminders at the 45th, 50th and 55th minute. We recommend wrapping up by the 55th minute as it leaves time for reviews, feedback and scheduling the next session.

0 to 5 min: Educator check in. Understand student's objectives, level, and priorities.
6 to 55 min: The lesson.

Nothing to install or download. Lessons run entirely through your browser.

You'll need a stable internet connection, a laptop or tablet, a microphone and speakers. A webcam is strongly recommended as it helps educators read engagement and adapt their teaching in real time.

A modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge), a stable internet connection (minimum 2 Mbps), and a laptop or tablet.

No apps. No downloads. Everything runs in your browser.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson? Lessons & Scheduling Students & Parents

Yes. Here's how it works:

• More than 24 hours notice: Full credit refund. Free to cancel or reschedule.
• Less than 24 hours: 70% credit refund.
• Less than 12 hours: 50% credit refund.
• Less than 4 hours: No refund.

Refunds are issued as in-platform credits, valid for 3 months. You can reschedule with the same educator or choose a new one.

What happens when a student cancels a lesson? Lessons & Scheduling Educators

Here's what you earn depending on how much notice the student gives:

• More than 24 hours notice: Lesson is cancelled or rescheduled, with a full refund. No earnings for this session.
• Less than 24 hours: Student receives a 70% credit refund. You earn 5% after GoBrainly's platform fee.
• Less than 12 hours: Student receives a 50% credit refund. You earn 25% after GoBrainly's platform fee.
• Less than 4 hours: No refund to the student. You earn 75% after GoBrainly's platform fee.

The student may reschedule with you or choose a new educator, that's entirely their call. Credits are issued to them valid for 3 months.

What happens if my educator doesn't show up? Lessons & Scheduling Students & Parents

You'll receive a full refund in platform credits and the educator will have a penalty applied to their account, because your time and your lesson matter.

If you're the one who doesn't show up, the full lesson fee applies, unless you submit a valid reason (e.g. medical certificate) within 12 hours of the lesson start time.

What happens when my educator cancels a lesson? Lessons & Scheduling Students & Parents

If your educator needs to cancel, here's what to expect:

• More than 48 hours notice: Full credit refund. You can rebook with the same educator or find a new one.
• Between 24 to 48 hours: Full credit refund. The educator is allowed up to 7 free cancellations in a rolling 3-month period; however, from the 8th onwards, a scheduling breach penalty is applied to them.
• Less than 24 hours before: Full credit refund. A scheduling breach penalty is applied to the educator immediately.

You will always receive a full credit refund regardless of when the cancellation happens. That's our commitment to you.

Credits are valid for 3 months and can be used to rebook with the same educator or a new one.

A note on scheduling breaches:

• When an educator breaches their scheduling commitment, penalties are applied from our end. We hold educators accountable because your time matters, you planned your day around this lesson and that deserves to be respected.

What happens if my student doesn't show up? Lessons & Scheduling Educators

You'll receive your full lesson earnings as your time was set aside and that counts.

If you're the one who doesn't show up, a penalty of 25% applies, unless you submit a valid reason (such as a medical certificate) within 12 hours of the lesson start time. The penalty exists to be fair to your student, they cleared their schedule for a lesson with you and that deserves to be respected.

Can I book a lesson in advance? Lessons & Scheduling Everyone

Yes and we encourage advance booking. Book as far ahead as you'd like to secure your preferred time slots. 

There's a minimum advance booking window of 12 hours, and all lessons are auto-confirmed once payment goes through.

What happens if GoBrainly goes down during a lesson? Support Everyone

We aim to keep GoBrainly running 24/7, but like all platforms, we cannot guarantee 100% uptime.

If a confirmed GoBrainly platform-wide outage affects your lesson, here is what happens:

If your lesson has already started:

• Student receives: 50% credit refund, issued as in-platform credits within 3 to 5 business days.
• Educator receives: 50% of the lesson fee.

If your lesson has not yet started:

• Student receives: 100% credit refund, issued as in-platform credits within 3 to 5 business days.
• Educator receives: No payment, as the lesson could not begin.

In both cases:

• Credits expire 3 months from date of issue.
• No dispute needed, no back and forth. We will sort it.

What counts as a GoBrainly outage: A confirmed platform-wide technical failure on our end.
What does not count: Your own internet connection, device problems, or browser issues.

Before any educator teaches their first lesson, we check who they are and their qualifications. That is not optional. It is how GoBrainly works.

During lessons, everything stays on the platform. No personal contact details shared, no off-platform communication, no exceptions. If someone tries, their account is acted on immediately.

And if something feels wrong during a lesson, the red flag button is right there on your screen. You do not have to wait until after. Every report goes to a real person.

We built this platform for parents who want their child learning, not worrying. And for educators who want to teach, not navigate unnecessary risk. Safety is not an extra feature here. It is the starting point.

Can I book more than one lesson at a time? Lessons & Scheduling Students & Parents

Yes. You can book as many lessons in advance as you like, with the same educator or different ones. There's no limit on how many you can schedule ahead.

Booking in advance is a good idea. Popular educators fill up fast and securing your preferred time slots early means fewer last-minute scrambles.

Can I book the same educator again? Lessons & Scheduling Students & Parents

Absolutely and we'd encourage it. Consistency with the same educator makes a real difference to learning over time.

Simply visit their profile and book your next session directly. If you want to make things even easier, book your next lesson at the end of your current one. Most educators appreciate the heads up and it keeps your schedule on track.

How do I know if an educator is a good fit for my child? Account & Profile Students & Parents

Start with their profile: Qualifications, subjects, rates, and ratings are all visible before you book anything. Most educators also have an intro video, which gives you a real feel for how they communicate and teach.

A few things worth thinking about:

• Does their teaching style suit how your child learns?
• Does their rate fit your budget comfortably?

There's no perfect formula. If you're spending more than 20 minutes deciding, you're probably overthinking it. Book a first lesson and see how it goes, that's the best way to find out.

Who can become an educator on GoBrainly? Account & Profile Educators

Anyone with knowledge worth sharing and a genuine desire to teach.

To get started, you'll need:

• Minimum qualification: Diploma or equivalent (A-Levels, Polytechnic Diploma, or equivalent)
• Minimum age: 18 years old
• Completed identity verification

The Diploma or equivalent minimum is a quality floor, not a credential barrier. It is the baseline that ensures students and parents can trust who they're learning from. Most people with the knowledge worth teaching will already meet it.

GoBrainly may request additional verification at any time. Submitting false credentials results in immediate account termination.

You do not need a formal teaching certificate, a university degree in education, or years of tutoring experience. If you know your subject and want to help someone learn it, this is for you.

Why might an account be suspended or terminated? Account & Profile Everyone

GoBrainly is built on trust and we take that seriously. GoBrainly reserves the right to suspend or terminate accounts for:

• Providing false information with intent to deceive
• Attempting to contact users outside the platform
• Exchanging personal contact information
• Harmful behaviour such as vulgarities, threats or derogatory language

Can I view my lesson and payment history? Account & Profile Everyone

Yes. Your full lesson history, timings, and payment records are all in your profile. Invoices and transaction records can be downloaded at any time.

Preventing it: Never share your GoBrainly login details. Use a unique password for every platform.

What are my tax obligations? Payments & Fees Educators

You are responsible for reporting and paying taxes on your GoBrainly earnings. We don't withhold tax or provide tax advice.

How does payment work? Payments & Fees Students & Parents

We accept major credit and debit cards, including Visa and Mastercard reloadable prepaid cards.

Payment is charged at booking, this is how we confirm your booking and have the educator start preparing for the lesson. The payment is only released to your educator once the lesson is complete. In the event the lesson doesn't go ahead, the applicable refund or cancellation policy kicks in and your payment is handled accordingly.

We do not store your card details and you can remove or edit the card information any time.

Is there a subscription fee? Payments & Fees Students & Parents

No. Pay per lesson, nothing more. No subscription, no lock-in, no commitment beyond the lesson you've booked.

Are there any other fees? Payments & Fees Educators

Besides the platform fee, there is a $2 withdrawal fee (inclusive of GST) when you request a payout from your earnings or credits wallet. Minimum withdrawal amount is $50.

Nothing else. No monthly fees, no hidden charges.

How do I set my rate? Payments & Fees Educators

You're in full control. Set your rate anywhere between $5 and $500, in $5 increments. If you're unsure where to start, our default rates at the lesson set-up by education level are a good starting point.

How do I change my password? Account & Profile Everyone

Head to your profile settings to update your account details. 

If you've forgotten your password, use the 'Forgot Password' link on the login page.

What happens if I feel unsafe during a lesson? Safety & Security Everyone

End the lesson and report it immediately.

During a lesson: Click the red flag icon, it's always visible on your screen. You'll be asked to provide a brief reason.

After the lesson: Email [email protected] with as much detail as you can. All reports are completely anonymous.

Your safety comes first. Don't wait until after the lesson if something feels wrong mid-session. Use the flag, end the call, and reach out to us.

Can I trust who I'm learning from? Safety & Security Students & Parents

Yes. 

Every educator's documents are verified before their account is approved. Their qualifications, experience, and rates are all visible on their profile before you book. This way, you always know who you're learning from.

Is my data secure? Safety & Security Everyone

Yes. Your personal data is encrypted and stored securely. We do not share your data with third parties.

For payments, we do not store your card details. All transactions go through secure payment gateways.

We comply with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA).

Can I share my contact details during lessons? Safety & Security Everyone

No. Sharing personal contact information: phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, social media handles, etc, is strictly prohibited and violates our Terms of Service.

All communication must go through GoBrainly's in-platform messaging. 

Here's why: This keeps your personal life separate from your GoBrainly activity. If you're a student, it protects your study-life balance. If you're an educator, it protects your work-life balance. And for everyone, it means GoBrainly can keep you safe and your personal details private. After all, this isn't social media, nobody here expects you to be reachable 24/7.

Your time, your boundaries, and your wellbeing matter here. If something doesn't feel right, report it. We take every concern seriously.

What if something goes wrong during a lesson? Disputes & Refunds Everyone

We hope it never comes to that, but if it does, we've got a process in place.

File a dispute within 12 hours of the lesson ending. Disputes can cover:

• No-shows
• Inappropriate behaviour
• Poor lesson quality
• Technical failures

Your post-lesson feedback and rating are the main evidence in any dispute, so make sure you complete them after every lesson. Disputes are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Are completed lessons refundable? Disputes & Refunds Everyone

As a general rule, completed lessons are non-refundable, a service was provided and the educator's time was given.

That said, exceptions do exist. If a Terms of Service violation or a valid dispute is confirmed, students will receive one of the following:

• Option A: A credit refund of the lesson fee (before platform fee), issued as in-platform credits within 3 to 5 working days, or
• Option B: A code for one free lesson with the same educator, issued within 3 to 5 working days.

Earning potential Payments & Fees Educators

Your earnings depend on three things: how many hours you teach, the rate you set, and how well you retain students. Because those factors vary from person to person, earnings will naturally look different for everyone; comparing yourself to others won't tell you much.

We don't publish average earnings, but here's a simple illustration:

• Rate: $40/hour
• Hours: 11 hours per week (1 hour on each weekday, 3 hours each weekend day)
• Weekly gross: $440, before taxes and platform fees.

All of that earned from home. No active advertising. No building your own website. No spending months or years trying to grow something from scratch.

If you've got the knowledge, GoBrainly handles everything else. You don't need to be a trained teacher. You don't need experience running a business. You just need to know your subject and be willing to share it. The rest is already built for you: payments, scheduling, students. You show up and teach.

You only need materials you'll actually use in your lessons. That's it.

This isn't social media. There's no expectation to post daily, build a following, or produce content for its own sake. Your value is in how you teach, not in how much you create.

Use what already exists. Curricula are stable and change slowly, your materials can be reused across multiple students without constant updating. Once your lesson ends, your work is done.

1. First lesson framework: Always spend the first 5 minutes understanding the student's objectives, current level, and upcoming deadlines. Always write this down in your post-lesson notes.
2. Handling a disengaged student: If a student is not engaging, pause and ask directly: 'Is there something specific you'd like to focus on today?' Don't push through 55 minutes of silence.
3. When a lesson goes off-plan: It happens. Acknowledge it briefly, redirect, and note it in your post-lesson feedback so the next session starts with clarity.
4. Pacing: Leave the last 5 minutes for wrap-up. A lesson that ends abruptly feels unresolved for students.
5. Managing parent expectations: If a parent joins the first lesson, it as an opportunity to ask them the same questions you'd ask the student. They often have context the student won't or are unable to share.
6. Note-taking between sessions: Even brief notes ('Student struggles with fractions, strong on algebra') make a huge difference to your teaching quality over time.

1. Come prepared: Write down 1–3 things you want to cover before each lesson and tell them your goals. Share them with your educator at the start.
2. Be honest: If something isn't working, say so. Your educator can only adapt if they know.
3. Take notes during lessons: Even brief ones. Research shows writing things down improves recall significantly.
4. Don't skip lessons: Consistency matters more than intensity. One lesson a week every week beats three lessons in a row then nothing.
5. Use the feedback prompt: It takes 2 minutes and helps your educator improve for your next session.
6. For parents: Ask your child after each lesson, 'What was the most interesting thing you learnt today?' It reinforces learning and keeps you informed.

Our commitment: GoBrainly's primary student audience includes children aged 10–12. Their safety is our highest priority.

• Parental consent: All students under 16 require parental consent before accessing the platform.
• Educator screening: All educators' identity and academic credentials are verified before approval.
• Reporting: Any user can report a concern using the red flag icon or by emailing [email protected]. All reports are treated seriously and investigated promptly.
• Educator conduct: Educators must not make personal contact with students outside the platform, share personal information, or engage in any communication that could be considered inappropriate. The same goes the other way.

When do I get paid? Payments & Fees Educators

Once a lesson ends, GoBrainly holds the payment for 12 hours (to allow for disputes). After that, it's released to your earnings wallet.

Request a withdrawal any time. $2 withdrawal fee applies (inclusive of GST), minimum $50 withdrawal amount. Payouts arrive within 3 to 5 business days via PayNow (default) or bank transfer. 

What are GoBrainly's operating hours? Getting Started Everyone

The platform runs 24/7. 

Educators' availability varies, check each educator's profile for their schedule.

Our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm (Singapore time), excluding public holidays.

How Disputes Work Disputes & Refunds Students & Parents

If you are filing a dispute against an educator:

You have 12 hours from the end of your lesson.

• Step 1: Go to your lesson history and select the relevant lesson. Or during the lesson, click the three-dot menu in the corner of your screen.
• Step 2: Click 'Report' → 'File a Dispute' and select the dispute type: No-show / Behaviour / Lesson Quality / Technical Issue / Payment / Others.
• Step 3: Provide your evidence. Your post-lesson feedback, rating, and any additional details. 
• Step 4: GoBrainly will review your dispute and aim to respond within 3 to 5 business days.
• Step 5: You will receive a decision by email.
• Step 6: If the dispute is upheld, your educator faces a penalty and has 48 hours to choose:
  • Option A: You receive a full credit refund of the lesson fee (before platform fee), credited to your in-platform wallet within 3 to 5 working days.
  • Option B: You receive a code for one free lesson with the same educator, issued within 3 to 5 working days; the code expires 1 month from the date they were issued.
  • Note: If the educator does not respond within 48 hours, Option A applies automatically.

The choice of penalty is the educator's to make, not yours.

What if the educator appeals?
The educator can appeal within 24 hours of receiving the verdict. The appeal is reviewed within 3 to 5 working days. You will be notified of the outcome.

However, if an educator has filed a dispute against you:

• Step 1: Make sure your post-lesson feedback, rating, and any additional details are completed. This gives us both sides of the picture.
• Step 2: GoBrainly will review and aim to respond within 3 to 5 business days.
• Step 3: You will receive a decision by email.
• Step 4: If the dispute is not upheld, it ends here.

If the dispute is upheld against you and the breach is serious, it may result in suspension or account termination.

• Step 5 (Appeal): If you disagree with the verdict, you can appeal within 24 hours. Write to [email protected] with "Dispute Appeal" in the subject line. Appeals are reviewed within 3 to 5 working days.

• Option A: You forfeit your lesson fee. The student receives a full credit refund of the lesson fee (before platform fee).
• Option B: You keep your original lesson fee. Your next lesson with the same student is free. The student receives a code to book that free lesson, the code expires 1 month from the date they were issued.
• If you do not respond within 48 hours, Option A applies automatically.

• Step 5 (Appeal): If you disagree with the verdict, you can appeal within 24 hours. Write to [email protected] with "Dispute Appeal" in the subject line. Appeals are reviewed within 3 to 5 working days.

Can I cancel or reschedule a lesson? Lessons & Scheduling Educators

Yes, and we get it, life happens. Here's how our cancellation policy works:

• More than 48 hours notice: Cancel or reschedule freely. Your student receives a full credit refund.
• Between 24 to 48 hours: Up to 7 free cancellations per rolling 3-month period. From the 8th onwards, a scheduling breach applies. Your student still receives a full credit refund.
• Less than 24 hours: No free cancellations. Immediate scheduling breach. Your student receives a full credit refund.
• A scheduling breach results in an adjusted platform fee on your next 5 lessons.

What's a scheduling breach?

• A scheduling breach means an adjusted platform fee of +5% applies to your next 5 lessons and any active rebates are suspended for those lessons. The adjustment stays in place until all 5 lessons are completed and it doesn't expire early.
• The 3-month window resets from the date of your first breach, so it's always a rolling count.

A few things worth knowing:

• Cancellations are free and unlimited when you give enough notice, we want flexibility to work both ways.
• The closer to the lesson, the more disruptive it is for your student. They've set time aside specifically to learn from you and the policy reflects that. The same applies the other way, students who miss lessons without notice are penalised too. We respect everyone's time, equally.
• Your student can choose to reschedule with you or find a new educator, that's their call.

What happens to my credits if I don't use them? Payments & Fees Students & Parents

In-platform credits expire 3 months from the date they were issued.

You'll receive a notification before your credits expire so you have time to use them. Credits cannot be converted to cash, they can only be used for lesson bookings on GoBrainly.
